As I am sure you are all aware of the impending Solar Eclipse on 8 April, 2024 and have heard much about its potential for change and awakening, what I want to cover is how to be prepared for change. 

Preparing for change – stepping into the unknown and vulnerability

First of all, any new step in evolution is unknown, so we need to let go of needing to know and be ready to embrace the unknown. 

Secondly, between where we are now and where we are going, there is chaos. So with chaos and the unknown, how do we navigate our way to the most positive future? Before I go into the energies we need to get us through, I first want to bring up the issue of trust. 

When we don’t know how we are changing, or what we are becoming, all we can rely on is that if we are moved by love, we are becoming more. Whenever you allow yourself to be loved, you change. This is what makes love scary, and why so many people have fears of intimacy. Change is something you are not in control of, but in the case of love, you know you are becoming more. 

So in the unknown, remember to be vulnerable to love. To be vulnerable to love is to change because you are loved. Be aware also, that you choose what you are vulnerable to. Vulnerability doesn’t mean you have to be vulnerable to abuse or any negative energies, it’s about what you are going to allow to impact you and therefore change you. So be vulnerable to love, to the Goddess, to your own power and magick. See also my upcoming workshop: ‘Letting in the Love’.

As this solar eclipse is potentially a time for awakening, let’s look at what’s needed to pass initiation.

Keys to Initiation

There are 7 keys:

1) Empowerment. This is a combination of permission and authority. You  have only to give yourself permission; the Goddess has already said yes. Authority is about being the author of your own life. YOU decide where you are going. 

2) The light of your passion. Feel passion for your dreams and for your growth. Passion is the fire of the soul, and it emits a light that carries you forward.

3) Imagination. Keep nurturing your imagination. It’s your most powerful tool. It needs to be strong. 

4) Balance. Keeping a balance that ensures our awakening is a complex art. There are 7 components to balance:

Illumination must be balanced by shadow. Without shadow, it blinds us.

Fantasy must be balanced with Wisdom. Without wisdom, fantasy becomes delusion. With wisdom it becomes fantasia.

Guidance with Boundary. If we follow all our guidance without keeping our boundaries, we can totally lose ourselves and give our power away.

Freedom with Responsibility. Freedom without responsibility is tyranny. Freedom without power is merely entitlement, which gets us nowhere. See my previous article on Responsibility and Freedom.

Movement with Direction. Once we know we have to move, it’s important to find direction, or we end up in frenzy and chaos.

Love with Will. Love and will form the core of power. Love without will becomes sadomasochism. Will without love becomes manipulation and control.

Presence with Authority. Once we wake up, we need authority, so we know we can take control of all the wrongs we see and start shaping our world. Otherwise, when people wake up and start seeing all the corruption and horror in the world, they  just want to go back to sleep.

5) Willingness to access the liminal. The liminal is the in-between. Between where you are now and where you want to be, there is great change, and therefore chaos. You have to be willing to go through that chaos if you want to get to the end result of this change. 

6) Substance. Do you follow through with what you set out to do? 

7) Being tethered to the future, not the past. When in the chaos, we seek a tether. If you tether yourself to what you were, you go back to it, and don’t complete your transformation.. We have to tether ourselves to what we are becoming. Keep your vision on your future, and who you are going to be, and hold on to that vision when everything is changing.

The Sun may be clouded, yet ever the Sun
Shall sweep on it’s course ‘till the cycle is run
And when into chaos the system is hurled
Again shall the builder reshape a new world

Your path may be clouded, uncertain your goal
Move on, for your orbit is fixed to your soul
And ‘though it may lead into darkness of night
The torch of the builder shall give it new light

You were, you will be, know this while you are
Your spirit has travelled both long and afar
It came from the source, to the source it returns
The spark which was lighted eternally burns

It slept in a jewel, it leapt in a wave
It roamed in a forest, it rose from the grave
It took on strange garb for long aeons of years
And now in the soul of yourself it appears

From body to body your spirit speeds on
It seeks a new form when the old one has gone
And the form that it finds is the fabric you wrought

As dew is drawn upwards in rain to descend

From cycle to cycle, through time and through space

Must come at your bidding, as flame out of fire

Once list’ to that voice and all tumult is done
Your life is the life of the infinite one
In the hurrying race, you are conscious of pause
With love for the purpose and love for the cause

You are your own devil, you are your own God
You fashioned the paths your footsteps have trod
And no-one can save you from error or sin
Until you have harked to the spirit within.
